Where Photography becomes Sculpture
What happens when photography becomes more than simply recording what we see?
UK-based artist Linda Burris Webster transforms maps into sculptural forms, then photographs them to create striking and unexpected visual narratives.
For Linda, the photograph is only part of the artwork. The construction that takes place before the camera is equally important. Maps are removed from their familiar function and reshaped by hand, transforming fixed geography into something fragile, changeable and open to interpretation.
Look once and the image may appear abstract. Look again and fragments of geography begin to emerge.
This tension between the familiar and the unknown makes Linda’s work so compelling. Places, borders and directions are disrupted, inviting us to reconsider how we understand and navigate the world.
Linda’s distinctive practice is receiving growing recognition across the UK and internationally. She was recently featured across 11 pages of Aesthetica Magazine and is a finalist in the Photography and Digital Art category of the Visual Art Open Prize. She was also a finalist for the LensCulture Art Photography Prize and has been longlisted for both the Women in Art Prize and the Visual Artists Association Artist of the Year 2026.
From 8–11 October, Linda will exhibit at The Other Art Fair London.
Linda’s photographic artworks are produced as limited-edition giclée prints on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Pearl paper, with each work available in two sizes.
These are artworks that continue to reveal themselves—inviting you to look closer, uncover fragments of place and discover something new with every viewing.
